Coiling for Lyme

Trying to cure one case of Lyme Disease

Clarity

It’s been a whole month since I’ve been at the computer and able to write. Sometimes I wonder how I blogged the first year that I was coiling. I was definitely as tired as I have been this month. I was certainly sicker. I was also alone way more of the time. My only responsibilities were to take care of my cats. Back then I ordered out food or my […]

The Lure of Antibiotics

It’s been two weeks since I returned from vacation. I’ve been having a hard time since I left Mongolia. That’s right. Mongolia. It was a fabulous trip. We stayed in Ulaanbaatar for a few days, then took an overland journey through the Gobi Desert, the steppes and the grasslands, and a little bit into the mountains. Most days involved a lot of riding in the back of a Russian military-surplus […]

Accidental Control

Since the last blog post, I had a few friends in town. One friend from NYC came for a week and we went out and did a lot of fun stuff: whale watching, visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium, eating deep fried artichokes, going to the beach and walking in the slough and lots more. Before she got here, I had planned to coil the regular amount while she was here: […]

Interpreting Dreams

As I focus in on coiling for Bartonella, in the absence of activity from both the Lyme and Babesia infections, I’m reinterpreting some of my experiences with these illnesses. Rocephin Experience Rocephin was the last antibiotic treatment I did for the tick-borne illnesses. Intravenous Rocephin was the first treatment I ever used that kills Bartonella in the central nervous system (CNS). At the time, however, I was only thinking about […]

Strawberries

Food allergies are a real bummer. I moved to the part of California known for its amazing strawberries. They smell really good…and their flavor lives up to their reputation. Joe and I decided to make strawberry jam as a party favor for our wedding, this being Watsonville and all. We did it in three batches. The first batch was the one I couldn’t resist. We bought unrefrigerated strawberries picked that […]

Lyme Disease and Sex

Not Feeling So Sexy When I first got really sick from Lyme Disease, sex was the farthest thing from my mind. The first year, when I was semi-paralyzed, lying on my bed, wondering what was wrong with me, I thought about my biological clock and whether I would survive to have children. But I wasn’t thinking about sex. For a woman with a chronic illness, sex can be a taboo […]

Detoxing daily

Any time my primary focus is off my health, everything goes awry. Coiling takes a fair amount of time and scheduling, both the actual time on the machine and the time in between when the coil needs to cool. Detoxing takes focus, both to prepare all the pills and potions and to remember to space them out properly. The plan for this autumn’s Lyme Disease flare and extra coiling has […]

Sleep and insomnia

One of the issues that arises repeatedly is getting the right amount of sleep. In the early years of debilitating Lyme Disease, I slept a lot, 10-16 hours a day. It seemed like I couldn’t get enough. When that phase was over (after I started antibiotics), it’s been more varied. I’ve gone through periods when I can’t sleep well or for full 6 to 8 hour stretches. I end up […]

New Lyme Coiling Plan

I spoke to one of my fellow Lyme-combattant-coilers last week. She sent me a different coiling schedule than the one I was using. (I mentioned this the day I spoke to her.) It’s an interesting idea that I’ve been processing for the past week or so while I try out the concept. The basic premise is that I’ll cover my whole body with the coil over the course of one […]

Little decisions

As I continue to experiment with new treatments, to modify my protocols for bacteriacide and detoxification and diet, I have to make tons of decisions. Today, I’m pondering two of them. First, should I stop florinef on Saturday? My doctor told me if I was okay after a week, I could stop or cut the pill into quarters. I’d rather just stop. The benefits are that I’d be finished with […]
