Bartonella Progress Notes

Since I’ve returned from visiting my sister’s family during the middle of March, I’ve been focused on getting rid of Bartonella. I’ve been vacillating between feeling like I’ll never get to the end of coiling and realizing that I might actually beat the Bartonella infection in the next few months. When I got back, I hadn’t coiled in 12 days. As soon as I started coiling for Bartonella again, I […]

Thought for Food

This past week, I’ve been trying to figure out what my dietary needs are and how to fulfill them. I haven’t been doing a great job with eating, but I’m getting there. For now, I’m working out what I think I need, then I’ll figure out the portions later. Food History Before I delve into the details of my current thinking, there is my history with food. I was somewhat […]

Talking Turkey

This past week, I’ve been thinking a lot about how to go from where I am, which is better than I’ve been since I got sick, to healthy and capable of daily activity. In a lot of ways, I think I’m on the right track. I’ve made adjustments to the Bartonella protocol. I’m trying new foods and doing my best to get the dormant Lyme bacteria back into their active […]

How do you know?

A while back, maybe over the summer, I read an article in the New Yorker about Lyme Disease. In it, one of the patients who got interviewed said that she couldn’t be sure that the reason she was feeling better was her Rife machine (which is the category of technology that coil machines fit into). Instead she took the view of a scientist, correlation does not equal causation, and she […]

Sweet Relief

Sweet This weekend, before the Lyme symptoms crashed over me like a ten foot ocean wave, I did some baking. My friend, Shannon, came over and we tried out two recipes from the book, The Joy of Gluten-Free, Sugar-Free Baking, by Peter Reinhart and Denene Wallace. I’ve been on a severely restricted diet since 2008 and avoiding eggs since 2007. As one might imagine, the restrictions impaired my ability to […]

Loosening up and making mistakes

I miss eating. I love eating. Before I got sick, I was a vegetarian. I ate at the local Indian restaurants a few times a week. I ate tasty salads with tons of ingredients, including hard boiled eggs. I cooked and ate Italian food (think eggplant parmigiana or pasta with tomato sauce). I loved cheese. I drank steamed milk, hold the coffee, many mornings. I liked to have a chocolate […]

Plan Update…already

Since yesterday, when I wrote about my current coiling plan, I’ve made a change. It seems that the Bartonella red-flag, pain in my feet upon waking, has become an almost daily occurrence. So I’ve changed it a little, to fight the Bartonella. I’ll be coiling my abdomen daily for Bartonella instead of every other day. Go figure. The reason, as I understand it, is that as Lyme dies down, it […]

Cheating without consequences

In August, I learned about a few more food sensitivities and decided to get strict with myself. For the past several months, I’ve been doing a fair amount of detoxing and completely avoiding these foods. So on Tuesday night, I decided to cheat. I didn’t choose foods that trigger my sensitivities. Instead, I had my favorite dessert, sticky rice with mango, at a local Thai restaurant. Normally anything with that […]

Food fight

Some days I have no appetite. My cardiologist asked about this, probably in reference to coming off florinef. He firmly told me I need to eat. I already know. Most days, I have three meals and a snack or two. I force the meals if necessary. I eat the snacks if I’m even vaguely hungry. Today was one of the days when I failed. Between the florinef and the Lyme […]

A Heavenly Vacation

Prior to this weekend, I hadn’t been to Columbus for 6 years…or maybe 7. I’d seen my friend, John, and his partner, Tara, on other occasions in NY since then, since I’d gotten sick. This was the first time I was more or less well enough to travel to them. I got to meet their children for the first time. What angels! They’re loving and intelligent and playful and full […]
