In August, I learned about a few more food sensitivities and decided to get strict with myself. For the past several months, I’ve been doing a fair amount of detoxing and completely avoiding these foods.
So on Tuesday night, I decided to cheat. I didn’t choose foods that trigger my sensitivities. Instead, I had my favorite dessert, sticky rice with mango, at a local Thai restaurant. Normally anything with that much sugar/simple carbohydrates (as in rice and a fruit) would cause a cascade reaction of inflammation. My joints would bother me more. My stomach would swell up. Whatever Herx I was having would be worse.
This time was different. I think I’ve done enough detoxing and reducing inflammation that my system could handle a little more than it could before without a big reaction. All I had to deal with was a minor gas attack that lasted less than a half hour.
This is big news. For 4 years, I’ve been dreaming of a day when I can eat the things I like without major consequences. On each previous occasion, there was a price to pay, if not immediately, then within 24 hours. Little by little, I feel like I’m past the worst part and maybe headed towards the life I want. I’m not foolish enough to think everything will be over soon, but maybe, just maybe, the last part of recovering from Lyme Disease won’t be that bad.
Of course, I won’t be cheating again for quite a while. No need to tempt fate…
Lab Notebook
One of the reasons I’m doing this blog is to track my treatments and symptoms. I’ve let too many days go by without writing them down. This is my best reconstruction from the previous week.

I woke up with the Bartonella pins and needles in my feet when I first stood up.
This was the first day that I didn’t feel like my blood pressure was low. I woke up with pain in my sacrum, but decided to go to yoga anyway. Yoga was great. I didn’t get a headache at the end, or at least it was relatively mild.
The only thing is that I was wiped out for the rest of the day. So I rested and napped and coiled.
Tuesday (Oct 18)
Coiling
I had a lot going on this week and was having trouble timing the coiling sessions. The thing that often got left out was a full Babesia session, but I made sure to coil my blood stream either through my liver or my heart & lungs.
- Tinea, chest, 3 minutes
- Candida, chest, 2 minutes; abdomen, 10 minutes
- Babesia, liver, 10 minutes
- Bartonella, chest, 2 minutes; abdomen, 5 minutes
- Lyme, front of ilium, 3 minutes each side; back of ilium, 3 minutes each side; hips & outer thighs, 3 minutes each side
Detox
- skin brushing
- diatomaceous earth
- brisk walk
- nap
Body
After coiling my legs the previous night, I started to feel a Herx in my back. Right up and down my spine. I don’t know if it was a delayed reaction to the previous week or if it’s because I generated a die off in my legs. The spine pain was in my paraspinous muscles and up and down my vertebrae. I had the pins and needles sensation in my feet as well.
I went to the cardiologist this day. After a long wait (that totally tired me out thanks to the local news broadcast in the waiting room), I was cleared to stop taking any blood pressure drugs. I’ve been elated all week.
It’s a mixed bag. The benefit of being on them was that my blood pressure was just enough higher that I didn’t get tired or nauseated from it. The disadvantage was all these fungal infections that I still need to get rid of. I’ve still got a spot on my right upper arm and several small spots around my sternum.
Wednesday (Oct 19)

Body
I woke up with back pain again. I went straight for the BioMat to get some circulation going. I had a nice slow morning and a nice warm shower. That helped get rid of the pain.
I also had the pins and needles sensation in my feet the first time I stood up.
I was tired all day long. I rested as much as I could. I had a headache in the evening.

Body
I woke up on the BioMat. I wasn’t as sore in my back. Only my sacrum hurt. My feet had pins and needles pain in their soles first thing on standing up.
I was energetic and upbeat the first part of the day and finally started to catch up on email. Then at 3:30pm, I faded and napped for an hour. I spent the rest of the day feeling tired and grumpy. But when it was finally time for bed, I couldn’t settle down.
Friday (today)
Coiling
I’ve reached the full coiling protocol on all the parts of my body except for my head. I’m still building up slowly (30 seconds more on each location each week) because I’m trying not to end up with a killer Herx that makes it so I can’t think about how to handle it.
- Candida, chest, 2 minutes; abdomen, 10 minutes
- Babesia, shoulders, 30 seconds each; shoulder blades, 30 seconds each; ilium, 1 minute each side; lower/central/upper back, 1 minute each; knees & elbows, 1 minute; feet, 1 minute; chest, 10 minutes
- Lyme, crown of head, 2 minutes; back of head, 2 minutes; sides of head, 2 minutes each, sacrum, 2 minutes
Detox
- acupuncture
- skin brushing
- kombucha
- juiced greens
- diatomaceous earth
Body
I woke up this morning with the pain on the soles of my feet and an ache in my sacrum. I was moving in slow motion all morning, though I was in a good mood. My hands and wrists hurt.
Acupuncture helped move the pain around in my back. Interestingly, I had reactions at the key bladder points. Even the tinea spots on my chest are on the bladder points. I think I still have a bladder infection.
I’ve been taking grapefruit seed extract all week. I’m up to 8 drops in my water tonight. If nothing moves when I hit 10 drops, I’ll contact my doctor and see if I should keep increasing the dose or if I need to do something else.
Since I got back from the acupuncture treatment, I’ve been pretty tired. A slow, slow day.
