Visiting my naturopath

I saw my naturopath, Dr. Darin Ingels, on Saturday. He was astonished to see me walk in without a cane or limp. He was equally astonished that I drove myself there without my mother, who had accompanied me to every visit with him for two years. This was my first visit in a year and a half. We went through my medical history since then. I asked for a different […]

Three Days

It think I’ve had a migraine for the past three days. That’s why I haven’t been blogging. My headache was triggered by the sunlight which I couldn’t avoid while driving to and from Connecticut to be with a friend and see my naturopath(more on that visit in another post). My eyeballs were the first to start hurting. Then it turned into a very intense pain on the right side of […]

Private Yoga Lessons

Every now and then, I show up for my regular yoga class and there are only one or two other students. Other times, it is crowded. Today, the only other student was my friend, who I was bringing to her first yoga class ever. My favorite teacher was teaching the class. I found it challenging and sweaty, after only one class in the previous 6 weeks. (I missed last week […]

Cat Therapy

I have a friend (who is actually more like a sister) staying with me for a few weeks. I’m very much enjoying sharing my apartment with another person, especially someone I like so much. In part, it breaks the isolation of living alone while dealing with a long term illness. In part, it’s so nice to have a relationship that lasted longer than a decade and to become instantly close […]

Building Triceps

One of the pleasures of being with a three-month-old person is that he wants to be held a lot. I particularly like carrying him while walking around. As luck would have it, he likes me to walk around carrying him. He prefers if I sing to him as well… Even with my back pain (mostly in my spine, not in the muscles I need to carry things), I’ve been able […]

Packing up

I’m heading to visit my sister and her family in the morning. I’ll be gone for a few weeks, so I’m taking my coil machine and BioMat. I’ve spent the evening packing, deciding what to bring, cleaning out the fridge and straightening out the apartment. That took up all my time and energy. Coiling Babesia, chest, 5 minutes; abdomen, 5 minutes; ilium, 1 minute each side; knees/elbows, 1 minute Candida, […]

Waking up again

There is a phenomenon that I’ve experienced over and over since I’ve been sick. I call it waking up, but it usually happens when I’m already literally awake. It goes like this: I have a number of consecutive days (somewhere between 3 and 50) where my symptoms suck up all my attention. My pain level is high. I’m nauseated. My headaches are blinding. My limbs are heavy and tired and […]

B-12

When I got debilitated by Lyme disease and it’s co-infections in 2007, I was a vegetarian. The usual kind, I ate vegetables and grains, lots of tofu, cheese and eggs. I ate too many cookies and probably not enough protein. I had been a vegetarian for about 9 years at that point. In 2008, when I found a doctor who diagnosed my infections, he told me I needed to eat […]

Sweating it out

Ah the joys of summer. Warm nights. Humidity. Swimming laps in an olympic pool during my dreams. My body often feels better in the summer. So far, it’s been hit and miss, but we’ve only had a few days of heat. Yesterday I was tired, had cardiac symptoms, then went for the most lovely, carefree walk in my neighborhood. Today, my joints are aching a lot. I’ve been nauseated most […]

Welchol vs Colestid

Over the years, especially during my time on antibiotics, I used several different “bile-binding agents” to help diminish the Herxes. Some have been useful and some have been problematic. My least favorite was cholestyramine. It was too strong. I took it during a round of antibiotics that killed off a lot of Lyme bacteria, leading to a long lasting, ever increasing Herx. The cholestyramine did reduce the symptoms of the […]
