When I first got the coil machine, it was in the midst of a struggle with kidney stones. Everyone knows they hurt. Seriously, it’s true. At the time, I wasn’t sure if it had passed or was still stuck somewhere in my ureter.
Well, I coiled and found out it was still stuck. Herxing is not a great idea when only one kidney can drain and you spend each day drinking over a gallon of water. The Herx took longer to get out of my system…and it made the complications caused by the kidney stone worse. I even ended up with a minor urinary tract infection. So I obviously stopped coiling and dealt with the kidney stone for a while.
Now I’m several months into coiling. Many things have improved: my stamina, my muscle strength, my ability to go up and down stairs without feeling like I’m having a heart attack, my concentration, my typing, my appetite, etc. This comes from working on my quartet: Lyme, Babesia, Bartonella and Candida. Granted, I still have frequent bouts of pain and stiffness, lots of fatigue, and any improvements might be absent on a given day, but the overall trend is upwards.
But now I’m worried about my kidneys again. I had one stone removed, but the CT scan that found that one (on the left side) showed another one in my right kidney. It was small enough that it could dissolve or pass without painful complications. But my urologist asked me to come back in August to make sure it was heading out rather than getting bigger.
I’m having direct kidney symptoms that are very similar to the ones I had in the month or two before I discovered a stone blocking my left ureter: mild discomfort in my back where my kidneys are, hesitation when I urinate, extra thirst.
I’m also having symptoms that are recognized as kidney symptoms in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. These include: ear pain, graying hair (that process has sped up noticeably in the past three to four weeks), hair loss (thank goodness for puffy, curly hair), low back pain, light menstrual cycle, difficulty regulating temperature (I’m always cold), night sweats, knee problems, and the “heat” symptoms of a hot, itchy, red rash on my chest.
I’ve also read that in TCM the kidney is intimately related to bones and bone marrow and the spine. This makes me think that I’m really making headway on the Babesia in my bone marrow if it is doing enough to upset my kidneys. I also know that a major part of the Lyme Herxes that I have manifest in pain in my spinal column. So it makes sense that these treatments put extra strain on my kidneys.
What I think would make the most difference is acupuncture and a course of chinese herbs. None of that will happen until I get back to New York. Until then, I started Renavive today. It’s an herbal formula that is supposed to detox the kidneys and dissolve kidney stones. It is supposed to be effective on the kind of kidney stones I get (calcium oxalate).
I’m also drinking more water and more lemon juice (citric acid is supposed to help dissolve calcium oxalate). I’m reducing the amount of soy milk I drink (it has oxalates in it). The urologist said not to worry too much about consuming oxalates in natural foods, like green vegetables and nuts, but to avoid processed foods like soy milk. I still will eat soy (which isn’t a problem except in soy cheese and soy milk) because that helps with my menstrual cycle, but I’ll head for tofu and edamame.
I’m taking it easy on the coiling these days, not for the kidneys but for daily ability to function. Still, it helps not to overwhelm my kidneys while they’re weak.
We’ll see what happens.
Coiling
I skipped Candida today because I didn’t leave myself enough time in the morning to coil before the baby was downstairs near the coil machine. After a busy day, I only had time to coil twice.
- Bartonella, abdomen, 5 minutes; chest, 2 minutes
- Babesia, chest, 5 minutes; abdomen, 5 minutes; ilium, 1 minute each side; knees/elbows, 1 minute; shoulders, 15 seconds each
Detox
I’m struggling to have time and energy to make juiced greens. I’m hoping I can do it again tomorrow morning.
- homeopathic support
- lemon water
- turmeric (in scrambled tofu)
- skin brushing
- BioMat
Body
I slept on the BioMat (level 2) for half the night last night because I went to sleep with spine pain. I woke up sweaty and moved onto the regular part of the bed. Then I woke up this morning with spine pain again, so I lay on the mat for 30 minutes before getting up.
I had spine pain all day. It was enough to make me notice it, but not enough to constantly distract me. I had a bit of a headache for a while. And lots of light sensitivity and floaters in my vision. This evening, twice, I had that intense pain in my left hip/outer thigh that I described yesterday, followed by a pain down the outside of my left leg.
My very loose bowels are gone, and now I’m on the verge of constipation. (I can’t win!) My intestines seem very unhappy.
My ears hurt. My teeth hurt. My joints ache, more so in air conditioned rooms than outdoors. I was slightly nauseated several times today, maybe more of a queasy stomach.
Despite the queasy stomach, I cheated on my diet. I had a baked nectarine with a goat cheese filling. I skipped the skin because it was too red. Maybe the nectarine had whatever the red food chemical I’m allergic to in its flesh because I rarely get pain in my teeth unless I eat an allergen. It was so delicious that I decided it was worth the risk. And in the grand scheme of things, this isn’t so bad.
Despite all my symptoms, I had a decent amount of energy for carrying a beautiful baby boy who wanted to be walked around. It was nice. It was also nice that I got to put him to sleep tonight and let him sleep on my chest for a half hour before he got in bed.
