Thanksgiving was a week long for me. The best part of it was getting to spend time with my sister and her family. I had to balance coiling and resting time with the visit, so I was wistful about getting to be with them more, but I was more than thankful that they are a part of my life.
I was thankful for many things, especially related to my health. This time last year, I was torn between feeling like Rocephin was a miracle that finally got rid of my limp and feeling frustrated that my joints were getting worse along with the Rocephin side effects. I took my last dose right before Thanksgiving and was about to start a fancy, expensive form of doxycycline. Then I ordered the coil machine. It has changed my life.
Since last Thanksgiving, a lot has changed. To someone I meet for a short visit, I seem completely normal. I’m no longer tired 24/7. I walk normally. I can go up and down stairs (not 6 flights in a row, but I can do a flight up or down in the first 2/3 of the day). I can type much of the time. I have stamina. I don’t seem emaciated anymore, because I have some muscle mass returning to my limbs, even though I’ve lost weight since this time last year. I’ve been off antibiotics and using the coil machine for 10 months. My digestive tract has healed tremendously (even if not completely). I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.
There are other things I’m thankful for, especially my nephew and for the time I’ve spent with family and friends this year. I’m thankful for the new friends I’ve made and the chance to deepen my friendship and commitment to the friends I already have.
Now I’ve got more good stuff. I was able to borrow a second coil, so I can coil for 45 minutes twice a day and have the rest of the day free. It gives me time to socialize, do housework, try to get my finances in order, dare I say blog, without tied down to the coiling schedule. It’s a quality of life improvement.
But patterns are patterns. I’d rather socialize as much as possible and be around people now that I can. Afterwards I crash and barely do the minimum maintenance on my health and apartment. Then I need a few days to catch up on laundry, bills, ordering supplements, making & attending medical appointments. Sound familiar?
I’m still working with limited energy and attention span, moving in slow motion. Not bad, at least I’m moving. I’m trying to prioritize and balance everything I want to do. It’s a work in progress.
Babesia
I had a friend in town, then went away for a weekend, then had my sister’s family in town, and let’s just say I didn’t manage to coil twice a day every day for Babesia. It caught up with me. Night sweats came back. Fatigue came back. Headaches (pretty severe) came back. The first two symptoms as soon as I missed the coiling sessions. The last when I started coiling full schedule again. I guess I’m not through with Babesia yet.
(Unfortunately for my progress, I’m going to miss a few treatments this weekend. After that, I won’t miss any for a while.)
I called one of my compatriots in the coiling community to find out how long I have to do this for. He said that to be conservative, I should plan to coil for at least 3 weeks after the last Babesia symptom/Herx is completely gone. So I’m hoping to finish this round by the end of December or first week in January. We’ll see.
I’ve heard that Babesia comes back sometime later, usually 2 or 3 times. That it, too, has a dormant form. So even after all this, I’ll have to go through 45 minutes a day of Babesia coiling again later in the spring. I’d like to take a break at some point from Lyme and Babesia and start to get a handle on Candida and Bartonella. Maybe January…
Lab Notebook
I can’t really remember the symptoms and detoxing day by day for the past week and a half. I skipped a lot of detoxing, managing to do skin brushing every day, taking diatomaceous earth most days (except when I was too nauseated from eating the wrong foods), occasionally having kombucha, doing a little extra exercise carrying my nephew and going for walks, a visit to the acupuncturist on Tuesday, and that’s it.
I’ve been tired, dealing with the Babesia rebound. Headaches, night sweats. Then I’ve been dealing with the repercussions of not being completely meticulous about my food choices: swollen abdomen, irritated bowels, pain in my teeth, light headaches, more light sensitivity than usual. Then there is the Lyme Herx running in the background: not able to sleep a full 8 hours, pain in my bones, especially my spine and hands, muscle pain in my back, shoulders, neck and jaw, sound sensitivity and ear pain, joint pain in my shoulders and hips. I’ve been a wreck and still able to function better over it than I could have imagined this time last year.
Summer was better in some ways. But in others, I can see my strength slowly coming back.
