Tonight I filed my taxes. Given my current financial situation, it was pretty straightforward to do it online. I brought in a small enough amount that I didn’t even have to pay to e-file.
I recently read an article in Mother Jones about how the tax prep industry targets low-income communities of color to overcharge people who don’t realize how simple it is to file for themselves. (It isn’t on the website yet. When it appears, I’ll come back and add a link.) It’s another example of things that aggravates me about capitalism and how the US government makes it easy to prey on people who are already kicked around by the economic system.
I definitely miss being an activist.
Coiling
I got no reaction (Herx) from coiling yesterday for Bartonella or Candida. So I increased both today. I’m not too worried about bumping up the Candida quickly. It’s the Bartonella that hit me with a bad Herx a week or two ago at 2.5 minutes. I dropped back down to 2 minutes since then. Today I tried 3 minutes, hoping I don’t get slammed.
- Bartonella, abdomen, 3 minutes
- Candida, abdomen, 8 minutes
Detox
My BioMat was supposed to arrive today. I’m not really sure what went wrong, but UPS said they didn’t have my apartment number. I’m aching (literally) to try it.
The rundown
- homeopathic drops
- kombucha
- juiced greens
- skin brushing
I added another homeopathic remedy called Renalin. I’m still trying to figure out what it smells and tastes similar to. It definitely has a flavor and scent, but I can’t figure out what they are.
Since I’m taking the homeopathic remedies, I’ve stopped using toothpaste with mint oils in it. A naturopath told me that many remedies are counteracted by mint. The only mint I get near these days is in toothpaste. I’m using something from Tom’s of Maine called cinnamon clove. I don’t imagine it makes my mouth particularly kissable. (Cinnamon – yummy, clove – questionable.)
Body
I spent another half-day in bed. My period knocks me out. But it’s an opportunity to remember how far I’ve come.
Back in early 2002, about 8 months after the tick bite that got me into this mess, I started having really intense problems with my period: chills and sweats, vomiting, diarrhea, light-headedness, drops in my blood pressure (which resulted in near white-outs and near fainting spells), extreme weakness in my thigh muscles, and uncontrollable shakes. I used to have to ask someone to drive me home from work because I would get so sick so fast and not know it was coming until it was too late.
Now, after a long battle (to be detailed in another post), my menses bring a more manageable set of symptoms: cramps in my abdomen and back, difficulty falling asleep at night, daytime somnolence for one or two days, and a mild increase in Lyme disease symptoms.
The rest of the clinical picture today is a mild headache, fatigue (as in needed to lay down until 3pm), floaters, achy and stiff hip joints, knee pain, pain in my fingers and hands, and muscle pain in my upper back and shoulders.
I also had a bout of forgetfulness and missed a very important phone call this afternoon while I was grocery shopping. I’m usually more on top of the few things I book in advance.
Good Stuff
I worry all the time that Punky is going to die soon. Each time he acts like a normal cat, I’m super pleased. Lately he’s been talking to me about renegotiating his breakfast time (I say, 9am no earlier!). I’m glad that he’s vocal and interested in food.
He was chatty all day today. Then when I opened my one storage closet, a squiggly strip of brown paper fell out. It was a bit of packaging that I saved to reuse. Punky found it and turned it into a toy to pounce on and bat around for 10 minutes. It was great to see him acting like a cat! He rediscovered it later and played all over again.
A minor good thing today is that I sold 3 books on half.com. Unless I have a reason to think I’ll read a book again, when I finish it, I either pass it on to a friend or sell it to make space to store another book I plan to read. During this economic recession, I haven’t been able to sell much. Then 3 books on one day! To one seller! That’s great because I only have to make one package. Now a little bit of space opened up for a book I already bought…
